FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southeastern University Students Minister to an Eskimo Community in Need

LAKELAND, Fla.—For the third year, a group of Southeastern University students will leave the Florida warmth to journey to Emmonak, Alaska to help with children and teen camps ministering to the Eskimo community. This group of nine students, five who are returning, will minister to children and teens who are being abused, either sexually or physically. The camp will feature fun activities for the children and teens along with guest speakers to share Christ’s love. While there, the Southeastern University students will live in tents without any electricity or running water throughout the duration of the trip.

“I am excited to return for the third time to Alaska to minister to the Eskimo children and teens who have been abused. Every year I enjoy seeing the children’s faith in Christ grow, and their fear of what man can do to them diminish.” Ceciley Hooker, team leader, said. This trip takes place from July 9th through July 26th. The Alaska Missions team is seeking support through giving and prayer.

Destination: Alaska

LAKELAND, FL— Countdown is in full effect for the Southeastern University (SEU) mission trip to Alaska this summer. Preparing to go on this life changing journey is junior, Kayleigh Butler.

The Alaska mission trip team has been preparing for months for this trip by meeting weekly preparing themselves not only physically but spiritually. By doing devotions and praying for the people that they will be ministering to helps the team get prepared for the spiritual aspect of the trip. They will be going 17 miles up the Yukon River from Emmonak, Alaska to do a kids and teens camp along with street ministry.

This is Butler’s second time going to Alaska with SEU missions and she said, “I wanted to go again because we are visiting the same general area that we did last year and I really wanted to see the kids again and keep that connection strong.”

Mission trips are all about making relationships and through those relationships showing the love of God to others. “Not only did I get to have a relationship with the kids, but my own relationship with God became much stronger by getting to know them,” said Butler.

This summer will be filled with mission trips all across the world, but on July 9th Kayleigh Butler will begin her second journey to Alaska to share the love of God with the same kids that she herself fell in love with.

Everything is Bigger in Texas, Including the Music Festivals

FOR IMMEDIATE RELASE

Everything is Bigger in Texas, Including the Music Festivals

LAKELAND, FL– “There was nothing plain and simple about Austin,” said Adrian Garza, a senior communication major at Southeastern University (SEU).  Reporting for the entertainment website, underthegunreview.net, Garza had the opportunity to go to South by Southwest (SXSW), a major music festival located in Austin, Texas.

With over a 100 music venues, the city of Austin had completely transformed itself into a stage like no other for artists like Lady Gaga and Snoop Dogg. Saturated with musicians of all kinds, Garza interviewed Seahaven, Tiny Moving Parts and The Front Bottoms.

“The practice that I gained at The Times prepared me for my future career,” said Garza, who is the Editor-in-Chief for The Times at SEU. Garza hopes to pursue employment in the advertising and marketing industries and attributes his opportunity of going to SXSW to helping him network with the masters in the music business for his future. “Going to the festival was really the next big step for me in my career,” said Garza.

Southeastern University Senior Lands Internship with Famous Fashion Illustrator

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Southeastern University Senior Lands Internship with Famous Fashion Illustrator

LAKELAND, FL—Recently, Emily Meade, senior at Southeastern University, landed an internship working for the “it-girl illustrator” and style expert, Dallas Shaw. Meade’s interest in illustrations and in Shaw’s experiences as a businesswoman inspired her to apply for the internship even though Shaw is located in Delaware. With the help of her sister, who is a fashion blogger, her experiences, and her interest in Shaw, Meade received an online internship.

Shaw provides many different projects for Meade to work on each week, mainly research projects for new things to come. Meade is under a confidentiality contract so she is not able to share information about the projects she works on for Shaw. Meade enjoys the opportunity to learn the inside workings of a business while interning.

“It has definitely taught me the importance of staying on top of things with such a dynamic, and fast-paced business. It has also taught me how important social media can be to a business’ success,” said Meade. She will continue her internship throughout the remainder of the semester before going on to her Master’s degree.

She does it all

LAKELAND, FL—Campus ambassador, RAW TV host, and communication coordinator for RNC (renewed not condemned) are just a few of the titles that junior, Taylor Murray holds.

Growing up in Charlotte, South Carolina Murray never thought one day she would end up at Southeastern University (SEU) accomplishing some amazing things.

“SEU was never even on my radar until I was in a dark place and my mom decided it was somewhere I needed to be, since she went to school here as well,” said Murray. After the initial shock of moving to a city where she didn’t know anyone or what she was going to do with her life, she opened up and found the grace of God. “If it wasn’t for SEU I would probably still be in that dark place, not knowing all the potential that I held within me,” said Murray.

Of all the things Murray is involved in here at SEU, RAW TV is by far her favorite, “The funny thing is, I wasn’t even a broadcasting major when I started looking into auditioning for it,” Murray said. Starting off here as a special needs major she never would have imagined that she would go into broadcasting and that it would become her passion.

Going into her third year with being involved in RAW TV and continuing her first year as the host she knows it is where she belongs “I know God was calling me into this major and that this is what I am supposed to be doing with my life,” said Murray.

RAW TV and so many other organizations here at Southeastern would not be what they are without the help and talent of Murray. The students here at SEU could not imagine what it would be like without Murray here and neither can she, “I’ve met some of my best friends here and have a relationship with God that I never would have had if it wasn’t for this school and its culture,” Murray explains.

Even though she only has a semester left here at SEU, that won’t stop Murray from getting her name out there and accomplishing even more then she already has.
